We provided a certified translations of Slovak and Spanish diploma certificates into English. The original was supplied as a JPEG which we adapted into editable text using our software. Similarly, certified English translations of a Spanish-language marriage certificate were provided for a solicitor. 3 copies of the originals, translations and certified text were supplied to the client. Some discrepancies regarding terminology and names were picked up by our native speaker linguists and were checked and changed accordingly at the proofreading stage.
We have been advising at the early stages of a number of translation projects involving text in sophisticated artwork layouts, usually InDesign CS3. Examples include a medical manual relating to Optimal blood use, for translation into French, German, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish, and an in-house employee newsletter for translation into Russian.
The translations will eventually be adapted into a Low resolution PDF to be downloaded onto the client’s website, and/or a high-resolution PDF for printing purposes.
All graphics and tables will also be translated. Careful consideration will be given at the original design stage to allow adequate space for the translations because they will invariably contain more words than the English and it is important the style and format matches the original layout.
We also recommended the use of a glossary for consistency and accuracy. A glossary is also useful to ensure that our terminology selection matches that currently in use within specialist communities in the professional or commercial sphere.
A Medical research information sheet was translated into Guajarati.
Attention was made to make sure the characters displayed correctly in Unicode (a computing industry standard allowing computers to consistently represent and manipulate text expressed in most of the world's writing systems). To verify the translations we accompanied the Word file with a high resolution PDF to help the client to avoid any font issues.
The PDF (Portable Documents format) can also be used for printing purposes.
For a large institute the brief was to translate a legal letter into Vietnamese. Although this was not for publication the translation was checked and proofread in accordance with total Languages Solutions quality control.
