What is editing?
Translation to the UK standard requires that all translations be carried out
- by competent translators with appropriate expertise in the languages and subject matter, and
- that these translations be thoroughly reviewed by a second linguist of similar ability.
This is the standard to which Total Language Solutions has always worked. All of our “translation service” projects are edited and proofread according to the above standard.
Our standard translation service tariff meets this standard comprising the initial translation plus checking and proofreading.
Elsewhere, translation agencies use the word “editing” meaning simply that they have read through the translation without a 100% reference to the original text or checking the accuracy of the translation. Similarly proofreading can simply mean cursory pre-print checks for typographical or formatting errors.
