No! English happens to be one of the most concise of languages; Latin languages such as French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese are probably 10% to 15% longer in terms of the number of characters and spaces used to actually convey the same sentiment. German is longer by about 25% of the English equivalent. This may not matter in terms of straightforward text but if one was removing and then reinserting balloons into graphics in an instruction manual, a cartoon, a comic or a website, then quite often one will find that the text box, adequate for English, can barely cope with the Latin language and certainly is a “no-no” for German. This incidentally is one reason why we are often invited to be involved in the early stages in the development of multi-language websites.
